Late last year DigiCert completed their acquisition of the Symantec Group, including its subsidiaries GeoTrust, Thawte, and RapidSSL. This was completed after security concerns were raised about the administration of the Certificate Authority run by Symantec, which resulted in threats from Google to remove them from the validated certificates list in their Chrome browser. As a result of these changes, and DigiCert requires the migration of all previously issued Symantec Group certificates over to its own DigiCert CA Root.
